Shea butter is extracted from the nut of the shea tree, which grows in the tropical regions of East and West Africa. It is the most widely used natural hair conditioner and is known as “mother nature's conditioner” for its extraordinary moisturising properties. It soothes an irritated scalp, protects against heat without leaving a greasy or heavy feel, is credited with a low but sufficient SPF against ultraviolet rays, and is an excellent softener for coarse, brittle or fragile curly hair.

Ammonium lauryl sulfate (ALS) and sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) are abrasive detergents and one of the classic ingredients in almost every shampoo: they clean and degrease through the foam they produce.
